Today I'm linking up with Lucky Little Learners and Schroeder Shenanigans in 2nd for their Together We Are Better series.
This month we're looking at our home offices… My stomach dropped when I found out! I just moved into a new house, and we're in the middle of renovating it! I have grand plans to make the little bedroom at the top of the stairs into my home office (ONE DAY!) but it's not even ready for a coat of paint, let alone furniture and a blog post about it!
Well, I took a deep breath and started to think. I still do a ton of work at home every day, although it's not in the most glorious of fashions. However, I figure that many of you out there are also plugging away on your living room couch, or at your dining room table… and there's nothing wrong with that! I can take myself and my career completely seriously from the couch! With that, I present to you, my home office(s).
We just moved in this past January, but it's slowly coming together. I don't know about you, but I am pretty much run by a motor. I am GO, GO, GO all day, but when the battery runs out, I don't even get a flashing red warning. My eyes simply close and I'm out for the count. This phenomenon usually happens here on this couch… so it's a good thing it's comfortable!
There are some defining areas of this home office :) Let's take a closer look:
A. MY SPOT: The hubby and I each have our designated places in this room. Our big sectional is still in the basement wrapped in cellophane, awaiting the completion of our family room. For now, this room is where we watch TV, and when we're lazy, eat dinner (FYI, we're usually lazy!) My feet curl up to my chin as I sit here facing D. For someone who lives in the fetal position, this spot is perfect for me to get my work done in comfort!
B. HUBBY SPOT: This hubby prefers this spot, because he can best see the TV and put his feet up on the coffee table. Sometimes I think he just says he likes the chair better so that I can hog the couch. He has a great poker face, so I will probably never know!
C. POWER OUTLET: There are 3 outlets within range of the couch, which is crucial, as I'm the kind of person that forgets to charge their phone and computer at work. This couch is typically draped with cords charging up a storm!
D. TELEVISION: I often like to have a mindless movie on in the background as I work. I focus best when there is a fair amount of familiar stimulus in the background. However, I can never get ANYTHING done if I am watching a new program or movie, because I am also the kind of person that cannot focus heavily on two things at once. (Oops!)
This is my second "office," also known as my dining room table. Since we rarely use it for it's original purpose, it means this is where I get to spread out! The truth of the matter is that I use this space when the hubby is playing video games or watching something on T.V. that will likely distract me. There are some key items here that help me maximize my time (or at least enjoy it!)
A. My Erin Condren Planner is where I jot down all of my notes for school, scheduling, ideas for blog posts, and TpT products. It has saved me from the embarrassment of missing meetings and double booking parents. I don't think I will ever let myself be without one again. (And they can look brand new with a quick swipe of a clorox wipe!)
B. Since I am switching schools at the end of the year, I am going to have to give back the Mac that I have come to rely on this year. So… last weekend I went to the apple store and splurged! I'm not a big shopper, but when I do, I go all out. I am IN LOVE with this new beauty, and I can't wait to familiarize myself with the updated system and track pad!
C. I used to spend so much time searching my computer for random files, clip art I downloaded months ago, or last year's field trip forms. More often than not, I never found them, and had to waste more time making them/downloading them all over again. This past year, I finally took a day (yes a whole day!) and sorted through the mess that I called my hard drive. It was a long process, and my fingers hurt from clicking to create new folders and from dragging files between them. However, it was well worth the effort.
To top it off, I made a desktop background image that helps me further organize my digital life by arranging my into large categories. This way, I can still have multiple folders out, but I can quickly scan through and find exactly what I need! If your computer specs call for a 16:10 ratio, feel free to click on the image below to grab the image for your own computer!
(Blair Turner also has some great desktop organizers! Be sure to check them out!)
E. These are my noise canceling headphones. My hubby got them for me for Christmas two years ago when I started this TpT/Blogging journey, and they've been an amazing investment. When I'm truly in a bind to get a post done, or to get a timely TpT product up, these puppies are my best friend! I turn on some wordless music, and away goes the sound of video games, or the DVRed show that I wanted to watch. (Are you still trying to think of a word that rhymes with home office? Ha!)
Well, I hope that you have enjoyed your tour through my "offices." Hopefully the next time this theme comes around I will have finished the upstairs and put some furniture in there! 'Til then, wishing you a very happy Tuesday, and thank you for stopping by!
