Back-to-School Teacher Week 2014: Who

I'm super excited to link up with Blog Hoppin for Teacher Week 2014!
Check out the schedule below to see what's going on this week!  Today's topic:  Who are you?

Here are 10 bits of info to get to know me better

1.  BOSTON- I was born in Boston and I couldn’t move away!  Even though the winters are cold and the summers are typically hot and muggy, I love my city!  It is full of tough, hardworking, and kindhearted people who are always willing to lend a hand {as long as it’s not the one holding their Dunkin’ Donuts coffee!}

2.  TEACHER- I have been teaching first grade for 6 years, but this year I will be teaching third grade!  Before first grade I spent 3 years working in a K-6 Learning Center/Resource Room.

3.  GULLIBLE-  I am incredibly gullible.  Although I am very logical and thorough, I still find myself believing the ridiculous things my friends and family tell me!  I can’t help it!  I’ve ALWAYS been this way.  When I was little, my father used to tell me that he had super powers and could make the rain stop.  Every time we got in the car I would beg him to do it.  He would muster up his energy and soon after we took off, he would tell us, “I’m almost ready!” Then, he would say the magic words and the rain would STOP!  It only lasted a few seconds, but it was amazing.  I always asked him to do it again, but he said that it took a lot of energy to make the rain stop, so he needed to rest his powers for a bit.  I totally believed that my father had super powers for WAY longer than I should have, and was so mesmerized that I never thought to look out the window and check for when we drove under the overpasses.

4.  PIANO- I have played the piano since I was 3 or 4.  My siblings play, my mother plays, my aunt and grandmother were both piano teachers and church organists, and my great-grandmother played the piano to accompany silent movies… It was inevitable that I would play too.  I play to process my day.  The fast, loud pieces are perfect for the super frustrating days!

5.  COOKING- I can’t cook!  I am embarrassed to say it, but it’s true!  I am not completely hopeless when it comes to food though.  I can ALWAYS pick the best thing to order on the menu.  PERIOD.

6. NEFLIX- My Netflix account is very confused because I equally love British Period Pieces and any Avenger movie.  Their recommendations are WAY off, but I assume it only due to my polarized taste.

7.  LOVE- I married the love of my life 3 years ago.  We were married at the Boston Public Library because I can’t imagine any place better than a room full of books!  He is a wonderful travel companion, the perfect dinner date, and a constant support in every aspect of my life!

8.  ORANGE- My favorite color is orange… like Home Depot orange!  {This may or may not be a lingering side effect from growing up as the only red head!}

9.  PRINCESS BRIDE-  I can recite every word of Princess Bride.  Growing up, we weren’t allowed to watch T.V. during the week, but we had movie night with dad!  Princess Bride was usually the choice.  I loved rhyming with Andre the Giant {anybody got a peanut?} and laughing along with all of the great one liners that saturate the movie.  It’s a classic!

10.  NICK NAMES- I had so many nicknames growing up that my parents started to write them on the door of my room to remember them all (and who gave it me!)  Even though I am grown, my family still calls me Bean {from Jilly-Bean}  My mother still shouts it across the store when we’re shopping, and my dad still calls it from the porch when he sees me walking down the street… and I love it!

Well, that’s enough for now!  Thanks for stopping by.  I’m off to learn more about some of my favorite teacher bloggers!

  1. Thanks for sharing! I've visited Boston once - my favorite part was all the penguins at the aquarium. I love penguins! That's great bout your dad making the rain stop - I will keep that one in mind for my own kids someday.

    1. Those penguins are super cute! They actually just did a huge renovation, so perhaps you'll come back and check it out. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I can't cook either! It is so comforting to find someone else who shares the same non-talent! It's gotten to the point where I feel like I should just give up...oops!
